We Love Fine’s Bee & Puppycat Contest: Le Puppycat Macaron

06/12/2015

Remember when I entered my minimal Bee & Puppycat tshirt design in We Love Fine’s contest? I posted about it on my blog and on our Facebook fanpage a few times and thanks to YOU (everyone who voted) I won! So now they’re selling the Le Puppycat Macaron shirt and I’m so excited~ It’s been a (long) while since I’ve felt compelled to enter in any digital design contests and so happy you enjoyed the tee!

Wee! I feel so honored! And thankful! And this is of course how I looked when I won. Keep in mind this is after a long day of working from home while 4 kids are on summer break, taking them to the zoo after work and then walking over to the baseball park to eat with David’s coworkers and play in the sunshine. I’m surprised I’m even still awake but it was the first moment I had to myself all day! And how exciting to hear my design won a place in the contest full of amazing designs by other fans! I fell asleep before this was taken. Yes before.

So I would not consider myself a big gamer, I love Nintendo and the cute games they still make such as Mario, Wario, Pokemon and Animal Crossing themed ones. I play the Xbox with my boyfriend occasionally when we get an itch to dance or shoot zombies. I also have some awesome games on my iPhone that I can easily get addicted to. I even played Diablo, Everquest, Warcraft, Hello Kitty Online and other assorted RPGs or MMORPGs a bit obsessively through the years. I have found though the most common sort of games I play are simulation games (Sims, Second Life, Animal Crossing, digital pets). When I look for new games or new consoles the reason I even consider buying, paying or playing is if there is a rad new simulation or creative style game that looks like a fun new hobby or extension of my passion about designing everything in life. My games tend to revolve around designing or building something, getting creative or just having fun arranging and improving (what my boyfriend considers to be the more boring parts of gaming (even through he is an award-winning artist)).

I first started playing the Sims when the first ever Sims came out for PC (Feb 2000). I was in love. I played it, my brother played it, my friends played it, my high school boyfriend played it. We even had computer parties where we would sit and play the Sims making houses for hours on end like every normal couple (ha). I was pretty young so sometimes after school I’d find myself getting on my computer to play then noticing that 5+ hours had went by and I wasn’t nearly to the goal I had for my Sim that day. Games like this keep me coming back and keep me interested in their growth. When the Sims 2 came out my obsession grew a bit and I found myself more entranced more with my characters rather than just their homes. The Sims 3 brought a heavy obsession with both and designing both as I loved to do for Second Life, which also has a huge fanbase. You can really create anything you can think of and with the introduction of online profiles your friends can follow your characters, creations and worlds easily. Both games have a multitude of customization options and fan-made downloads to create your own experience. No one is limited to what the developers wanted things to look like and even encouraged to create custom content. THIS is the reason that I will continue to play these games when I have free time for gaming and the whole reason I made this new feature-section about games. I am a mac-player as well and I feel most game information for these games is PC-based or non-kawaii based which is something I’d like to improve a bit on.

I’m going to feature content and mods from digital artists who share our style of whimsical, kawaii and kitsch as well as tips and nonsense about improving the gaming experience itself. I will also put my own material here when I prepare a collection of Miseducated-style goodies for your Simland. Some of my customizations are linked below.

Ordering Food on Etsy: Little Oven Bakery in NYC

    05/17/2010

ready to openOrder food from etsy? What? Have you thought about it?

Recently my curiosity got the best of me (as if often does) and I wondered if people really ordered food off of etsy.. Upon asking on twitter, I found that a lot of friends and readers a like have been wondering the same.

Thus, this article is born and I get an excuse to support an adorable macaron bakery AND munch on the cookies. (win/win!)

I decided to order a set of macarons from Little Oven Bakery in New York City. They offer macaron packages on Etsy and I was smitten enough to try one!

The macarons arrived fast, within a day, and were packed up so nice that they had hardly crumbled at all. I was absolutely surprised and excited to be receiving one of my favorite decadent snacks in the mail. I couldn’t believe how well they traveled.

I tasted them with my husband — we split each macaron in half and saved the second box for later (tea time).

The Flavors I ordered were Raspberry, Caramel Fleur de Sel and Meyer Lemon. We absolutely adored the raspberry with chocolate creme, the caramel being a close second and in third the lemon. I prefer a more tart lemon so it was silly to order it as a sweet macaron, however we enjoyed eating each and every one of them.

Nice crunch on the outside with a soft macaron cookie center surrounded by a complementary creme. Creme desserts are absolutely a preference of mine and these were just as delicious as having them in a French cafe with tea. Not as beautiful of course, but macarons carry a special beauty with them no matter where they are and they please everyone they meet.

Mew for Today in Kiddy Land

    09/29/2009

Now it’s time to go to one of my absolute favorite shops to visit in Japan, Kiddy Land. I love going there with friends and wondering through the 7 floors of toys, color and fun. I can never get enough and I usually don’t leave until my basket is overflowing into my arms. Small weakness: cute and whimsical characters.

It’s a great girl date *and* a workout too, especially if you climb the stairs and oogle the gashapon (capsule machines) along the way. They capsule machines taunt you with miniature collectables, keychains, toys.. all of them are cuter than the next (if possible). All limited edition, once they’re gone they’re gone.. so if you happen to be a huge fan of a certain character you might purchase a number of capsules to get your favorite. Absolutely addictive. As are the arcades. Prizesprizesprizes. Collectcollectcollect. They’re trying a new thing in Japan (new in the USA) and it’s called offering high-quality prizes that people actually want. Haha.. to be fair I’ve noticed Japanese capsule machines popping up around our malls as well but the selection must have been tailored more for American kiddies.. no Sanrio!

As with any shop-a-long you get my gab to accompany you as well as the sometimes painfully-bright rainbow colors of Miseducated’s world.

Did I mention I recently seem to have become a fan of RUN-ON sentences? According to my writing the sentences. articles and explanations get longer and longer. I apologize for that. *bonk*

As we’re shopping remember to grab a cold drink so you don’t get too tired gazing at everything you want to play with! It’s easy to get fatigued here. Best to have a sugary drink or coffee for a more speedy trip (burst of energy). Or you could be healthier than I happen to be.

What was it you said you were looking for? Hot pink toenail clippers with your initials on them? 😉

I’m currently addicted to the girly-style boy briefs! The waist bands are adorable.. !! Check out the finds below and see what I mean.

    2. Slightly flatten the 2 bigger, and completely the 2 smaller
    3. Put each “slightly flat” with a “very flat” and flatten the different coloured one too
    4. Make a “sandwich” with the 3 of them

How to Create the Perfect Polymer Macarons

    03/25/2009

I believe many girls love macarons. Tell me who can resist the delicious and cute looking French macaron?

    macaron diy

Besides the edible macaron, macaron accessories are also very popular in Japan and all around the world. There are may ways to make macaron accessories for yourself or for your little Blythe. The simplest way is to use air dry clay or polymer clay. In this tutorial, I choose to use air dry clay because I don’t like to use polymer clay that has to be cured in the oven.

    macaron diy

    You Need

Acrylic paint (any colour you prefer)
Clay cutter and measurement spoon (size is up to you)
    9-pin
Embedded crystals (any colour you prefer)
Vaseline Petroleum Jelly or hand lotion
Air dry clay (you can use polymer clay which needed heat up in oven to cure)

    Steps

    1. Apply the Vaseline (or hand lotion) on the tools and surface that will contact with the clay. This step is important to avoid the clay stick at the tools or surface.
    2. Apply the Vaseline on the surface and your hands too.
    3. Cut this amount of clay (enough to make two macarons).
    4. Put a little red acrylic paint on top of the clay (I chose red because I want to make a pink macaron).
    5. Twist and rub the clay until the colours mixed evenly with the clay.
    6. Then put the measurement spoon on top of the clay.
    7. Press down so to get a shape alike the shape of the measurement spoon
    8. Please see if it looks like the photograph above.
9 Then use any flat surface to press it down until it looks like this.
    10. Repeat the step 6 to 9 for the bottom piece. Some embedded crystals are put on top of the top piece.
    11. As shown in this picture.
    12. Cut this amount of clay.
    13. Put a little bit dark brown acrylic paint on top of the clay (to add some colour to the filling) then twist and rub the clay until the colour mixed evenly with the clay.
    14. Then use any flat surface to press it down until it looks like this.
    15. Sandwich the white clay in between the top and bottom pieces of pink macaron.
    16. If you want to make accessories with it, you have to add a 9-pin. Enter the 9-pin from the side.
    17. Set aside the clay macaron for two days for completely air dry.

    Tips

    1. I recommend you to trim your nails first before handling the clay, because clay tends to stick to long nails.
    2. Make sure all the tools and surface are dust free to avoid any dust twisted or rubbed into the clay.
    3. In case the clay become dry, add a few drop of water to get back the flexible feeling.
